Rhythim Is Rhythim Strings Of Life (Transmat) 1987

I only ever had this on the Network label but I'm assuming that this is the original. This was of course Derrick May with his absolute classic 'Strings Of Life' This sounds wicked in any club, anywhere at anytime. The remixes were ok as well from a couple of years ago. You need this record.

Rhythim Is Rhythim Strings Of Life

Shawn Christopher Another Sleepless Night (Arista) 1991

Top tune, love the bit where her voice is sampled at the start. This is the Morales Mix I think..correct me if I'm wrong..

Shawn Christopher Another Sleepless Night

MCP Feat Sheila Abdul Over Me (Disco Magic) 1990

The Disco Magic Label with yet another piano screamer! Typical of the era, another sample, another piano, another bloody good tune.

MCP Feat Sheila Abdul Over Me

Kenny Dope Presents Bucketheads The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind) (Big Beat) 1995

Mid 90's BOMB!!! Kenny Dope does it again, what a build up and WHAT A TUNE!!!!!

Kenny Dope Presents Bucketheads The Bomb (These Sounds Fall Into My Mind)

Awesome 3 Hard Up (AM PM) 1990

Awesome definitely the word here. A great old skool 12" by Awesome 3. Top notch piano sounds.

Awesome 3 Hard Up

Stetsasonic Talkin' All That Jazz (Tommy Boy) 1988

Using a sample from Lonnie Liston Smith's 'Expansions' this was an awesome tune from Stetsasonic. Great lyrics about rap music sampling old jazz artists. This line baffles me however-

'...about how we sample, give an example'

Maybe he needs to read my first line... GREAT TUNE despite that no brainer question..

Stetsasonic Talkin' All That Jazz

Young MC Know How (Delicious Vinyl) 1988

Must be the biggest rap club tune ever. Slick rhymes from Young MC here and this earns its rightful place as a stonecold classic. Got CANED everywhere back in the early 90's.

Young MC Know How

True Faith Take Me Away (Nexus) 1991

Classic old skool from 1991. 'Come with me to the dancefloor....' Ace!

Frankie Knuckles Presents Satoshi Tomiie Tears

Marshall Jefferson The House Music Anthem (Trax) 1986

What are the chances of you naming your tune 'The House Music Anthem' then it ends up being one?

Marshall Jefferson The House Music Anthem

Frankie Knuckles Your Love (Trax) 1987

How do people produce records like this? Brilliant.

Frankie Knuckles Your Love

Boris Dlugosch Presents Booom Hold Your Head Up High (Julian Jonah's Bad Boy Mix) (Positiva) 1997

Bad boy indeed! The speed garage mix of this was wicked!

Another CLASSIC from Inner City.

Inner City Pennies From Heaven (Kevin's Tunnel Mix)

Nightcrawlers Push The Feeling On (Great Jones) 1992

Wow! Who remembers this? What a top sample that vocal is.

Nightcrawlers Push The Feeling On

Jinny Keep Warm (Next Plateau) 1991

An Italian piano house stormer!!!! Old skool classic. Sounds like it 'borrows' from Innocence's Let's Push It (Big Beat Mix) as well. Always a DJ's favourite as when the drum hits a few times before the piano the crossfader can be whipped over nicely..

Jinny Keep Warm

Kariya Let Me Love You For Tonight (Sleeping Bag) 1988

Old classic from 1988. If I have to tell you more about this then you're probably on the wrong blog...Sounds good still!
Kariya Let Me Love You For Tonight

Eddy Someday (Positiva) 1994

This sounds great still. Eddy from 1994 on Positiva with this uplifting anthem. (I have cheated on the image as I couldn't find the right one...sorry)

Eddy Someday

Clivillés & Cole A Deeper Love (Columbia) 1992

Classic house music from 1992.
Clivillés & Cole A Deeper Love

2 Bad Mice Bombscare (Moving Shadow) 1991

Classic breakbeat action from 2 Bad Mice. What a KILLER!

2 Bad Mice Bombscare

Bugg Kann & The Plastic Jam Made In Two Minutes (Optimum Dance Records) 1991

Wicked old skool flavours from Bug Kann & The Plastic Jam. This is one from the rave days, breakbeats and that cool eerie whistle noise. Love it.

Bugg Kann & The Plastic Jam Made In Two Minutes

808 State Cubik (Tommy Boy) 1990

Another one from 808 State. Not heard this for a while, still sounds cool.

808 State Cubik

Jon Cutler Feat E-Man It's Yours (Chez) 2001

Classic from Jon Cutler. Nearly bit the guy's hand off in the record shop if I remember rightly..

Jon Cutler Feat E-Man It's Yours

Zhane Hey Mr DJ (Maurice's Club Mix) (Flavor Unit) 1993

Thought this was worth posting for the Maurice's Club Mix on this classic Zhane 12" Might bring some memories back for someone!

Zhane Hey Mr DJ (Maurice's Club Mix)

Bass Construction Dance With Power (Elicit) 1992

Back to the old skool here. Classic piano riff and samples, loved this. Reminds me of Stu Allen on Key 103!

Bass Construction Dance With Power

Awesome 3 Don't Go (City Beat) 1992

One of the most rememberable piano riffs from the old skool. We all loved this Awesome 3 tune. There were 2 mixes on the 12" and I think I preferred the Kicks Like A Mule Mix. The more observant of you will perhaps notice that the Original mix seems to use the same beat as the Stone Roses' Fools Gold..Sounds like a variation on James Brown's funky drummer to me..Anyway I think this was produced in Manchester so big respect to anyone involved with this classic.
Awesome 3 Don't Go (Kicks Like a Mule Mix)
Awesome 3 Don't Go (Original Mix)

Adamski N-R-G (MCA) 1990

Nice house tune from 1990. Simple piano and slight acid-esque noises make this very pleasurable listening. Always looked a bit funny this bloke but certainly knew his way round a keyboard..

Adamski N-R-G

Nuyorican Soul Feat India Runaway (Mongoloids In Space) (Talkin' Loud) 1997

Another class production from Masters At Work. This is top quality in itself, then Armand Van Helden steps up for a go...My god! The Mongoloids In Space mix of this is sh*t hot. He puts some wicked beats on it, adds the biggest breakdown/build up scenario ever heard then India's vocals come floating into the mix over the atmospheric synth sounds...then BANG..in comes that funky bassline!!! Anyone who's heard this in a club will understand what I mean, this does some serious damage on the dancefloor.. Top notch production, a tune you MUST own. If you're a DJ you cannot afford to leave home without this.

Nuyorican Soul Feat India Runaway (Mongoloids In Space)

S.L.D. Gettin' Out (Creed) 1990

This was a massive piano anthem back in the day and rightly so. The vocals are cut and paste from Gwen Guthrie's Getting Hot and also Raw Silk's Do It To The Music and they work so well over the piano on this. If you're into old skool piano tunes then it doesn't really come any bigger than this..

S.L.D. Getting Out (Justin Robertson's Most Excellent Mix)

S.L.D. Getting Out (Original Mix)

Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives (12'' Classic Mix) (Arista) 1991

Classic. Just listening again, this really is a great song. But we knew this anyway..
Alison Limerick - Where Love Lives (12'' Classic Mix)

Shawn Christopher Don't Lose The Magic (Arista) 1992

Another classic Morales production.

Shawn Christopher Don't Lose The Magic (Morales 12")

Sandy Rivera feat Haze Changes (Defected) 2003

Great tune this by Sandy Rivera. Dark, deep, soulful with some great sounds.

Sandy Rivera feat Haze Changes

The Braxtons The Boss (MAW Mix) (Atlantic) 1996

If you can get the crowd to 'ave the hip hop beats at the start this is one hell of a tune! Masters At Work remix the classic Diana Ross tune for the Braxtons with astounding results. Sounds like there is a full orchestra on this. Tremendous. A must for any dj's box.
The Braxtons The Boss (MAW Mix)

Erro Change For Me (Z Records) 2002

Soulful house bomb.

Erro Change For Me

Nerio's Dubwork meets Darryl Pandy Sunshine & Happiness (YZX) 1999

Classic funky/disco house with a wicked soulful vocal on the top. This still sounds top.

Nerio's Dubwork meets Darryl Pandy Sunshine & Happiness

Bob Sinclar Save Our Soul (Legato records) 2001

The best from the funky house days. Absolute killer of a tune from Bob Sinclar.

Nomad feat Mc Mikee Freedom I Wanna Give You Devotion (XYZ) 1990

Is it house? Is it hip hop? I don't know and I don't care. It's a WICKED tune from back in the day. If anyone's not happy with that try the 'it's my blog and I'll put what I want on it' line...! Unforgettable female vocal on this and a most underrated rap performance. Add decent production to this and we end up with this great piece of vinyl. Go buy it!

Nomad feat Mc Mikee Freedom I Wanna Give You Devotion

MI 7 Rockin' Down The House (Chill) 1991

Highly sought after breakbeat classic from 1991.

MI 7 Rockin' Down The House (Chop Mix)

FPI Project Everybody (all over the world) (Rumour) 1991

I don't care what genre of house you like, these FPI ones were wicked. These guys were the masters of cut and paste sampling. The tunes were absolute killers as well, this being one of them. Absolute classic Italian house.

FPI Project Everybody (all over the world)

LFO LFO (Warp) 1990

I Love this tune. The synth sounds that they use at the start and all the way through are marvellous. Then we have the sub bass, the Speak and Spell sample AND the bleeps! Wicked.

LFO LFO

Denise Lopez Don't You Wanna Be Mine A&M 1990

This used to go for serious cash, seen this at £50 before now. Stumbled across a copy whilst in New York a few years ago and it was about $15 I think. It is a good record and seems to 'borrow' the late great Gwen Guthrie's bassline so obviously from Ain't Nothing Going On But The Rent. No one seems to notice this. This was produced by Civilles and Cole and there are a few different versions on the 12"

Denise Lopez Don't You Wanna Be Mine

Inner City Big Fun (Virgin) 1988

Classic Inner City, never fails to get the club going. Top notch as were a few of their efforts.

Inner City Big Fun

Jamiroquai Space Cowboy (Morales Remix) (Work) 1994

The Morales mix of this was a real winner. Stone cold classic house music. I am sure everybody knows this one.

Jamiroquai Space Cowboy (Morales Remix)

Electric Choc Shock The Beat (ZYX) 1996

Classic Italian piano house. Mine is on Disco Magic with a yellow label. Great tune.

Electric Choc Shock The Beat

Pierre Feroldi feat Linda Ray Moving Now (Disco Magic) 1994

The Italians quite literally raped Salsoul's entire back catalogue to produce some great piano house tunes in the early 90's. This one was one of my personal favourites although ironically I don't know what samples are in this..if any. Anyone who was into old skool back in the 90's will know this as one of the finest.

Pierre Feroldi feat Linda Ray Moving Now
