MARRS Pump Up The Volume (4AD) 1987
If you were into hip hop since the Electro days as I was you were probably loving this when it came out. These were in the days when you just didn't hear 'cut up' records like this. The video was ace as well as far as I remember (nips over to Youtube..) Yes it is.. Classic tune, love the break at 2.32...

Deee-Lite Groove Is In The Heart (Elektra) 1990
Undeniable classic. Bootsy Colins appears on this classic track along with samples from Herbie Hancock..I think...and also Q-Tip from A Tribe Called Quest. Also there is a remix here that wasn't on the 12" and only on a promo EP as far as I'm aware.

The Source feat Candi Staton You Got The Love (Erin's Bootleg Mix) (True Love) 1991
These two tunes were seemingly made for each other. Never has a bootleg sounded so good as this one did. Candi Staton's You Got The Love a cappella over Frankie Knuckle's Your Love. Worked an absolute treat and still does. A tune that still sounds good today, largely down to the power of the two tracks used. CLASSIC.

Ce Ce Rogers Someday (Atlantic) 1987
One of house music's finest moments. Absolutely beautiful. House was just so soulful in these days. Almost the equivalent of Martin Luther Kings I have A Dream speech, Ce Ce really moves us with this song. Fantastic stuff. The timeless piano and vocal has been sampled many times and to good effect. Liquid's Sweet Harmony was a massive tune back in the hardcore/rave days and so was Urban Shakedown's Some Justice. Possibly the best house tune ever.

My Friend Sam featuring Viola Wills It's My Pleasure (Network) 1992
Last one from the old skool before I hit the sack....Viola Wills It's My Pleasure..Loved her classic Dare To Dream from the mid 80's and was surprised to hear her on a house tune. This was a big one on the old skool circuit I seem to remember. Great tune, real and raw soul coming through in Viola's vocals. Incidentally Dare To Dream is here.

M Gee Feat Mica Paris Bodyswerve (Swing City) 2003
Mantronix Got To Have Your Love (Capitol) 1989
I would suspect that the majority of planet earth know this record. This is one record a DJ should never leave home without. You never know when you might need that trump card as you accidentally took the wrong record off the deck AGAIN. Classic soul groover from the late 80's.

Ministers De La-Funk Featuring Jocelyn Brown Believe (Subliminal) 1999
MASSIVE anthem from Jocelyn Brown on the label of the day Subliminal. Explodes after the organ at the start with the help of Chuck D's booming voice and a funky guitar. Then in comes Jocelyn and we have a serious tune on our hands. Wicked funky house.

Jimi Polo Better Days (Urban) 1991
Got a feeling that the version I am posting here is from a white label and not the version on this Urban label. Anyway this was a MASSIVE piano anthem back in the old days. Soulful vocal over that classic riff used to go down very well indeed. Also had a nice build up that you could recognise coming in as well. This ensured the stragglers from the toilet/bar/on the ceiling/asleep could make it to the dancefloor on time for the piano drop..BANG! Absolute classic for the old skool crew.

Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five The Adventures Of Grandmaster Flash On The Wheels Of Steel (Sugarhill) 1981
Having a sh*t night behind the decks? No one dancing? Stop that record that no one is listening to, play this one, go for a p*ss. When you come back everyone will be dancing..Grandmaster Flash with his ace cut up on Sugarhill. If you think P Diddy invented the remix then maybe you need to think again. Or stop being so f*cking stupid.

Nathan Haines Feat Verna Francis Earth Is The Place (Peaktime Mix) (Wave Music) 2001
Mine is on Chillifunk records but this is the best image I could find! Marvellous soulful house tune this from 2001. From the beginning you can tell you're onto something special with this one. Great sounds he uses on this. The lyrics are killer as well. Check 'em out.
